NFID/CDC Influenza Immunization National Public Service Announcement Campaign

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), launched a television and radio public service announcement (PSA) campaign to educate Americans about the severity of influenza and the importance of annual vaccination throughout the influenza season.

Each year, one out of every five Americans will get influenza, a serious and sometimes deadly infection.  The influenza season typically peaks between January and March, which means vaccination in December, January and later can be beneficial.  Vaccination is the best way to prevent influenza each season.

The CDC recommends influenza immunization for:

All children between 6 months and 5 years of age
People 50 years of age and older
All people with chronic medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes and heart disease
Those in close contact and out-of-home caregivers of those in high-risk populations, including parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, caregivers and babysitters
Pregnant women
Health care workers

The PSAs continue to air on broadcast outlets nationwide to reinforce the importance of annual influenza vaccination among those healthy and high-risk individuals.
